I am writing to tell you how impressed I was with the staff who greeted me at reception, a young man whose name I didn't catch, Emma who helped me decide on the Turquoise Four Poster room and the lovely Dawn who very kindly showed me some rooms and gave me an overview of your lovely hotel and beautiful grounds. They all achieved the perfect balance of courtesy and friendliness.

We want to say thank you to the staff at West Lodge Park Hotel. We have found all the staff at breakfast including Ljubica, Savvas, the two Sams, Demetris, Alex before he went to work in the Hatfield Hotel, and the rest of the staff were extremely helpful, courteous and friendly.

The staff that cleaned our rooms (numbers 49, 46, 4, 63 and 46 again) which were always cleaned to a high standard and whenever we mentioned to Peach that something wasn’t quite right, she got it sorted, so thank you ladies and gentlemen.

Thank you Grant for opening the door for us and the little friendly chats as we went on our way. Also the staff on reception were marvelous, always a friendly smile and extremely helpful.

So for making our eleven week stay with you pleasant and comfortable we are leaving a donation to your staff fund.

Hi Andrew,

Just emailing to say what an enjoyable stay I had at the West Lodge Park Hotel last week. I was there for two nights, Wednesday and Thursday and was very impressed with everything about the hotel. I’d particularly like to mention Sam Down, my waiter on Wednesday night in the restaurant. He was absolutely excellent and I can’t complement him enough on his service.

We all upgraded our rooms which were lovely. The food all weekend was terrific but most of all the staff were wonderful and in all departments couldn’t do enough for us.

Our driver was an absolutely charming young man by the name of Denis, and his driving skills were impeccable. Hi there

It's a cold miserable Sunday pm here in Lincolnshire but I have just a very pleasant hour looking at your wonderful website.

My husband and I spent our honeymoon there 32 years ago. Unfortunately David passed away 2 weeks ago at the relatively young age of 60 after being diagnosed with cancer just 6 weeks earlier so to come across your site with all it's pictures was a comfort and brought back very happy memories.

When we arrived at the station at Enfield, late on a Sunday night at the end of July, we expected to find a taxi office there to enable us to get to the hotel. Unfortunately as we subsequently found out one did not exist. We phoned your hotel and explained the situation and the wonderful receptionist organised one for us.

At the moment my daughter is transferring slides, that we took at the time on the computer, for safe keeping. I look just the same then as I do now...I wish.

Sorry to ramble on but as I say it's been wonderful take a trip down memory lane.

The ball was attended by 86 people and the raffle alone made a fantastic £385 for Foulds School PTA. I am writting to express my appreciation of the service and efficiency we experienced at West Lodge Park last week-end. I had booked a party of family and friends in to the hotel to attend my son's wedding nearby and I will say that our enjoyment of the wedding itself was made all the more complete by the good natured and competent attitude of your staff.

We had members of our party arriving from as far as France and Scotland so timing for dinner on Friday night was a little uncertain. However, we were looked after magnificently. Nothing seemed too much trouble as the hotel coped with this influx of yokels from the West Country! I was particularly impressed that staff actually spoke to one as they moved about the hotel. Even those sorting laundry in corridors would actually pause, look up and say "Good Morning"

Although our exprience made a special week-end even more memorable and I would very much like to pass on our thanks to everyone at the hotel.

I must send you a quick email to thank you for a really excellent recent 2 night stay (8 - 10 November) - far better than I ever expected!

I had reserved online a standard room but asked for 'quiet, with good view'. I am SO grateful for the very kind but unex;ected upgrade to Rm 8 Casement Rm (at the standard rate too). It was extremely comfortable, in the fascinating old part of such a lovely historic building with wonderful daytime views of the Arboretum, and on Sunday night, a bonus of the fireworks of Hadley!

Though I have lived in Southampton for 30 years, I originally come from Barnet, so this was definitely a nostalgic visit. My family (the Moore family) enjoyed significant celebrations in your lovely John Evelyn room (and another function room whose name I can't remember) over the years - my 21st, my parents' 40th anniversary, my wedding reception - all wonderfully supervised in his own inimitable way by Mr Phillips (who I noticed from your info, retired in 1992). Sadly my husband Alan died of cancer last year, so it was rather poignant to return to West Lodge Park where we had our wedding reception - 24 May 1986, though there were definitely over-riding memories of very happy times which your lovely hotel absolutely radiates!!

So I'd just like to thank you for a memorable stay at West Lodge Park, and for giving me the unexpected but much appreciated extra bonus of such a lovely room. I have recently taken early retirement from a very stressful and demanding job, and am thoroughly enjoying having the time to visit London (and Barnet, of course!) so I'm sure I'll return again before too long!!

I travel almost monthly and have stayed in many hotels. I can honestly say I enjoyed my stay at West Lodge more than any other hotel. It is a peaceful oasis, steeped in history, surrounded by nature and with all the modern conveniences one could wish for. Your couteous staff are helpful, informative, warm but not dominating. And the care you take to select local but excellant foods did not go unnoticed either. Well done. I will be back.

I would like to know how to inquire about donating and dedicating a tree in the arboretum. My Grandfather was the director of Howard timbers, a great UK timber and veneer firm in the early-mid 1900's. He was a lover of trees and good wood and instilled that in me from a very young age. When I was walking your grounds I kept thinking he must have known Beale arbortoreum as he lived in palmers green. My aunt confirmed that indeed he used to frequent the park often teaching her about trees. What better memorial to my grandfather than to plant a tree in his name and make a donation to such a wonderful school of nature

Can you point me in the right direction to see if that is possible

Mr Vanstone called to report a 'serious complaint' and would like you to call him back personally as soon as possible.

He stayed in R.11 and his complaint is that he has stayed in many hotels all over the country, and his problem was in actually leaving WLP behind and going home!

Taittinger Champagne Dinner

This was our second visit to you hotel and just to let you know we had a lovely quiet room, No. 11, which is one of the refurbished rooms. It was extremely comfy and the bed was just right. We asked for foam pillows at reception as my partner is allergic to feathers and they were promptly changed. The room was clean with complimentary mineral water and tea and coffee.

We had room service and the food was fantastic, much better than room service I've had in other hotels.

We will both definitely be returning to your hotel in the near future. The complimentary teddies are a nice touch too!

Recently we stayed at the West Lodge Park. We were there for 2 separate visits, separated by a weekend. In our first visit we had 2 rooms and for our second visit we had 3 rooms.

Our stay at your hotel was near perfect. Put it another way, it allowed us to concentrate on the job in hand and not have to worry about other things.

It is not possible to single out individuals for being especially good. If I were to do so I would inevitably refer to only those that I came across, omitting other important team members which I didn't see.

It was all good. The grounds were beautiful and a pleasure to relax in. The food was all good. The service in the restaurant was quietly attentive. Reception was always helpful. The rooms were always neatly presented. Everything was in good working order. It was a pleasure that you had no piped music; it was peaceful. All in all A1!

I did encounter a few small 'oversights' (response to e mail, table reservations, room lay out), which I discussed with Chris Hall. Everything was resolved satisfactorily and of course amicably.

Because I was anxious that everything I had control over should go as smoothly as possible I know I was obsessive at reception about room requirements. I am sorry I went on and on about it!! All the same, the reception team were excellent in handling my requests and brilliant at juggling rooms so we eventually got what we wanted.

Thank you to you all, it made a difficult time a bit easier.

We have stayed at your West Lodge Park hotel twice during the last couple of months and I just wanted to write and let you know how perfect pretty much every aspect of our stay was on both occasions. From the beautiful grounds and location to the delicious food and above all else, the truly wonderful service. All of the members of your staff that we met were efficient, polite, friendly and helpful without any hint of stuffiness whatsoever - a perfect balance.

We stayed at the Grand in Brighton last year and they could certainly learn a thing or two about service from you. Indeed, I would suggest that any hotel wanting to improve itself need look no further then West Lodge Park to see just exactly how it should be done!

Whilst writing, I ought to mention that we stay at Beales in Hatfield on a fairly regular basis and to say that whilst it is very different to West Lodge Park, we always enjoy the same high standard of service there too, particularly your lovely receptionists.

I know that these days, people are all to quick to complain if things go wrong, but I feel it equally important to let you know when things go right!

Dear Mr Beale, I have stayed at West Lodge Park several times over the past two years and have always been pleased with the accommodation and the service. But it was only during my most recent stay, from 24 to 28 June, that I truly appreciated the helpfulness and courtesy of your excellent staff. I had previously spent four weeks travelling around Europe and had stayed in hotels in Istanbul, Vienna, Budapest, Prague, Munich, Mallorca, Barcelona and Seville. The majority of them were very good, and in some cases outstanding, in terms of the product; but not a single one - not even the majestic Alofonso XIII in Seville - could match West Lodge Park in terms of service. Much as I would like to name the staff who impressed me most, it would be unfair to do so, for all of them - from the reservations manager to the receptionists, and from the porter to those serving in the restaurant - were a credit to the hotel. After the cold efficiency and sometimes lack of politeness that I experienced elsewhere in Europe, I consider West Lodge Park's staff to be in a different class. And it would be remiss of me not to mention that the room I was allocated this time (room 10) was the best I have stayed in at West Lodge Park. Thank you for another excellent stay, and congratulations on having such a fine team.

To Whom it May Concern:

I have been meaning to write for quite a while. Back in November - I believe the dates were November 17th-20th (could possibly be the 16th-20th - our reservation was either under Roger Levy or Daniel Levy), we had the pleasure of staying at the West Lodge Park in Hadley Wood.

Our stay was absolutely wonderful. Rooms were great, but what really stood out was the staff. I have said to so many people how impressed I was with West Lodge Park.The main reason I am writing is that there was a survey box by the front desk to write about superb employees. I was late for our flight and did not have time to fill out a survey on the individual I thought deserved all of the things in the competition. This was Jim. Jim, was exceptionally polite, and made sure that all of our needs were satisfied so that our big day of travels was more comfortable. For me that means having tea (my husband coffee) and toast - very early (5am). When I inquired about setting this up, Jim immediately said he would take care of it, and I must say I have never seen a person do a better job at their job. He was there right on time (down to the minute) - which was very important to me, yet I never stressed that at all. I was just happy that we could have our tea / coffee and toast prior to the kitchen opening. Additionally, he had our paper in tow.This sounds like a minor thing, but this is the most important thing to me about any stay anywhere in the world. I have stayed at 5 star hotels all over the world and truly have never encountered a staff that was as friendly, polite, knowledgeable, and helpful. We have family in Hadley Wood so the next time we go to visit we will definitely be staying at the West Lodge Park!

I am writing to thank you and your staff for organising our school conference. It all went really well – even the Private Dining! I’m sure that we gave you plenty of headaches before we arrived. The team who prepared everything for us at the weekend were efficient, calm and very professional. At present we are working in cold and dark conditions as the new school is literally being built around us – hoardings everywhere block out the light in classrooms and on the pathways. It was so lovely going into the John Evelyn room on Friday with the sun streaming through the windows and the lovely grounds to walk in and look at as we worked. It made us realise what awful conditions we have worked in and most certainly cheered us up. We felt refreshed and invigorated, even though we only spent a few hours with you.

We would like to thank you and your staff for all your help in making our 40th Wedding Anniversary Lunch on 12th October such a success. From the outset you guided and advised on all aspects of how we could achieve the best from our day and we certainly did. Not only was the venue such a lovely choice but the sun shone all day so we were also able to enjoy the grounds. The staff on duty were friendly and very helpful, and the rooms looked lovely especially when we had added the final personal touches. My company was at your hotel last week for 2 days and I can honestly say it was absolutely perfect. We had a meeting last Thursday and an overnight stay with a further meeting on Friday.

The service at both lunch and dinner was excellent. Particularly at dinner! The food was great. Having recently been to a hotel in Gerard's Cross where we all found the food to be very bland. The rooms were nice too and seeing as we all checked in at once we weren't waiting for ages to obtain our keys. I had lunch outside on the patio on Friday as it was a beautiful day and again I couldn't fault anything. I will definitely be using your facilities again. Thank you to you and your team.

It's not often that people thank you and tend to only contact you to complain so I thought I'd drop you an email. After the event I asked my colleagues for some feedback on the venue and all I received were positive compliments! I just wanted to say a big thank you on behalf of Alastair and myself ˆ we REALLY enjoyed our stay.

The staff were all fantastic; the food delicious and the ambience great. Adam was the manager for our stay and he was very personable and willing to help with all our many wants. Nothing was too much trouble.

I arrived early with Anthea Cowen on the Friday afternoon and we were plied with tea and biscuits in front of the roaring log fire in the reception and enjoyed welcoming the rest of the team sipping tea and enjoying each others company. Alastair arrived after work in time for his evening meal. Thank you Andrew.

We had the Oak Room which was beautifully decorated; the evening meal was delicious and served to us by a very friendly young man who was still as cheerful when he served us breakfast! Great service. Michelle who had welcomed us on Friday evening came back on duty on Saturday morning and she was also great.

So as you see your staff were superb. Thank you for facilitating our stay and to Sue and Helen and others that organised everything so well, in advance of our stay.

Seven weeks on, with nearly everything put away and all the bills paid, we are just writing to thank you personally for overseeing Claire and Ryan's Wedding.

It really was the most wonderful day, but only due to the amount of detailed organisation you and your team put in behind the scenes.

Although it seemed a daunting operation to us, you all made it run like clockwork and, when the weather dictated at the last minute that the BBQ would have to be held indoors, everything ran brilliantly, even down to Gina's subtle provision of a box of tissues during the lunchtime speeches!

We have had amazing feedback from guests and everyone enjoyed themselves - this is confirmed by the video and hundreds of photos showing all the guests looking relaxed and having fun.

My mother enjoyed the lunchtime lamb so much that she's planning a lunch party at West Lodge next June, and I will be in touch about that a little later!

I am sure the word 'wedding' to you means 'OMG! not another ******* one', but 'thank you' for making ours so very special for us all.

Dear Helen,

Just a short note to say thank you so very much for all your help, advice and guidance in organizing our wedding reception on the 8th July 2011 at West Lodge Park hotel…at very short notice!

The day went off wonderfully, from the red carpet on arrival through to the lovely food, reception rooms and hospitality from all the staff at the hotel.

Everyone at the hotel was so helpful and considerate throughout the entire day. However, Adam deserves a special mention for his helpfulness and professionalism, the smooth running of the whole event and nothing was too much trouble. Will, who ran the bar almost single handedly, constantly running to the main bar for additional orders until 12:00 midnight was also an absolute star.

The complimentary bedroom, room 36, was lovely and we just wished we could have stayed longer!

All in all a fantastic occasion with wonderful memories that will last a life time. Thank you and all the team at the West Lodge Park Hotel for making this dream come true in less than two weeks!

I am writing to say a big thank you to you for all your kind assistance and organisation of our wedding day, the personal touches you applied were very clearly evident on the day which were very much appreciated. The John Evelyn room is definitely understated in your photo gallery on the web site, the way in which the room was turned around for the three parts of our day was excellent, even with 60 people we felt that it was a big party and the ambiance created by the lighting etc...I could go on! All of our guests said they had the most fantastic day here on 2nd August at the above wedding and that all of the staff were amazing. In particular Adam, whose professionalism and attention to detail were without fault. What a perfect day it was on Saturday from St Albans Abbey to West Lodge Park

We would very much like to thank you for your help and support over the last two years in the planning and preparation of Elisa and Tom’s wedding celebration.

The day was just magical – all the i’s were dotted and the t’s crossed. The combination of your expert and very precise instructions with a diligence and excellent execution given by Adam on the day was beyond all expectations. Nothing was too much trouble for Adam and he carried out every task with a smile, warmth and tremendous willingness.

We would also be grateful if you would convey our appreciation to Wayne for the absolutely excellent food from the delicious canapés, the wedding breakfast itself which was superb, to the buffet in the evening. The service was first class and the waiters and waitresses were a credit to the hotel.

We cannot praise you, Adam, Wayne and your support staff enough for helping us to make our day so very special and one which we will relive time and time again in our memories

We had such a wonderful day and are so grateful that you and all the staff at the hotel were so accommodating in making our wedding day exactly how we wanted it. Please especially thank Richard – he helped from the moment we arrived on the Saturday right through to helping us carry our gifts etc. to our room after the wedding. He kept us informed with everything that was happening, reassuring me that the cake, flowers, groom (!) had arrived, and helped make everyone feel relaxed.

The food was lovely and again when guests were changing their minds from what they had ordered there was no problem at all with changing orders, which was very much appreciated.

Just a quick note to say how very delighted and thrilled we were with the way our daughter's wedding was handled on June 9th 2007.

The Marquee looked lovely; the drink reception on the lawn with the little tables put outside worked fantastically well. I know the good weather on the day was an amazing bonus, but the staff all worked so hard in quite surprising heat to make sure that everything ran smoothly. Nothing was too much trouble, even though our early arrival must have caused consternation!

The meal was beautifully served and delicious, the wineglasses were kept filled, the bar in the John Evelyn Room worked well, and when there was an extra crush more staff appeared to help out.

Please convey our appreciation and thanks to all the staff who worked so hard behind the scenes, including the gardening department who kept the grounds looking so magnificent.

I have to say that I always felt that your professionalism would ensure a wonderful day, and I actually didn't worry about the reception (apart from the weather), but it is always nice to have one's faith prove right! Our 40th Wedding anniversary was a beautiful occasion in a delightful environment, exceedingly well managed by the staff at West Lodge.

We were delighted with the arrangement of the rooms and loved the setting of the tables with the glassware we had asked for. We had such a wonderful day yesterday at our Golden Wedding lunch. Everything seemed to go like clockwork and so beautifully and professionally arranged for us. The rain kept away until we were on our way home and so we were able to sit in the garden whilst guests were arriving, and walk around the arboretum prior to the cake being served.

Will did his utmost to make us feel relaxed and was very ably assisted by his two young waiters. We were most grateful for all Will’s efforts in making the afternoon run so smoothly and for being a big success.

Dear Sharon,

Marion and I thought that you would like to know that all aspects of our stay at West Lodge Park and our anniversary dinner went without hitch and that we shall remember it all very fondly. Lauren was in charge of the function and she gave close attention to detail without being intrusive, and the staff were all very good. The table layout worked well, with the children being together on their own table but effectively corralled by adults around them. Only once did they try stealing and swapping the adults' shoes!

Another good thing, which is worth suggesting to other clients, was the use which we made of the lobby. We had the cake, a couple of flower arrangements, two photos from our wedding album (which we mounted on gold surrounds in white frames) and all of our cards on display on a long table which drew many admiring comments from guests as they came in.

Two points, which are intended to be of help rather than criticism are:

- the main course, described as "medallions of pork fillet wrapped in Parma ham" was actually served as a single "log" on each plate. It was very well cooked, but a little on the large side and a bit off-putting, I thought. I appreciate that it is difficult to carve into medallions without losing the wrapping, and of course takes longer to serve, but in my opinion two thirds of the quantity, sliced, would have been truer to the menu and more elegant to present.

- as you know, we stayed for two nights in one of the rooms. It is always difficult to stand in a bath and have a shower, but it really does need a grab handle, positioned at about chest height when standing in the bath, to help with climbing in and out, not to mention standing on one leg to wash one's feet! The soap dish at one end and the clothes rack at the other are really too flimsy and are not designed to take any weight.

Having said all of that, it was a superb weekend which we shall always remember and we are very grateful for the help which you gave us.

What a wonderful day we had yesterday - and what a party! Everything went off so well and it was just a lovely and relaxed atmosphere. The room and conservatory looked beautiful - you got the mix of pink balloons just right. The food was delicious and in abundance. Adam was efficient, charming and attentive and the staff did an excellent job too. Paul hit just the right note (no pun intended) and we all enjoyed singing along with my brother's impromptu Elvis tribute.

Everyone remarked what a beautiful setting it was enhanced by the glorious sunshine - we were so lucky with the weather! Shelley was completely stunned when she arrived and we all shouted "surprise". Last Saturday, 12th March, we held my 80th Birthday celebration at West Lodge Park.

I should like to thank David Seward and his staff, in particular Adam, who was in charge of the event, Georgina and Chris for looking after us all so well.

It was our third big party at West Lodge Park. In 1994 we held our 40th Wedding Anniversary party there. In 2004 we had our 50th Anniversary at your hotel. We brought an album to the party showing my daughter and granddaughter in the boat in 1994! They were wonderful but now it was even more special. With our events organiser, Helen, who was on the job since last July, everything went so smoothly and the fact that you were able to upgrade us to the beautiful room with the conservatory which we had for our 40th Wedding Anniversary, made it even more special. The food was superb, the kindness and care which Adam and Georgina showed us, the truly beautiful surroundings, made this an occasion which my daughter and grandchildren especially, but all the family there present, will remember all their lives.

And to add the final touch of glamour for the day, you gave us the Rose Room, since the room which we were to have had, had been smoked in.

The sunny spring day which we had was the cherry on the cake, so my child guests could play outside.

May I say how much I and all of my guests enjoyed this special family event in your wonderful hotel.

Abbi rang today to say how fantastic her event to celebrate her parent’s 50th wedding anniversary went last Friday. The whole party exceeded all her expectations – Adam and his team were superb and Helen and Louise’s help and advice ensured a perfect evening.

Her parents were elated when they saw the venue – she couldn’t have made a better choice. She is now looking for an excuse to hold another party!!!!!

One of her guests had booked (unbeknown to Abbi) in to the hotel to stay overnight and when Abbi spoke to her the following morning the guest was so enthusiastic about the comfort and quality of the room and the hotel in general – her only regret being that she had to leave very early the next day because she wanted to stay longer.

Well done to everyone – this was a very good last minute booking.

Wow..what can I say?!!!!! We had an absolutely fantastic time on Saturday night.

As for the evening, the lovely Champagne made the party start with a swing, the food and wine were fantastic, and your staff were as attentive as ever. On Sunday last, November 8, I had my 70th birthday lunch at West Lodge Park, with some 49 guests (14 of whom stayed overnight on the Saturday).

I knew it would be a good affair because I and my brother and sisters, their partners and my mother and step father had a small family celebration at West Lodge Park two or three years ago.

But my event was better than good, in fact it was brilliant. I cannot thank your team at West Lodge Park enough.

From my first visit to discuss the birthday lunch last February to the final farewell eveerything was perfect. I had enormous help from Sharon Blackgrove and the event panned out exactly as I had hoped. The room was wonderfully set, the food was just great, the flexibility of your team very helpful. Can I mention in particular the manager who was looking after our event - his name was Adam but I am sorry, I did not get his surname. My goodness, what a good ambassador he is for your hotel. Courteous and efficient at all times and so easy to work with.

So my congratulations and thanks. I know these days people are only too ready to criticise so I want to give great praise where praise is due. I am sure we shall be having another family event in due course.

Oh, and what wonderful grounds. With pressures on your bottom line, as in all businesses, I think it fantastic that you maintain the upkeep of those beautiful grounds so well. Many of us had a stroll at some time during the two days and it was a delight.

I promised I would let you know how Saturday went. We had a lovely event.

My wife and I celebrated our fortieth wedding anniversary on Saturday in the John Evelyn Room.

I am writing to you because I want you, as the person ultimately responsible for West Lodge Park, to know how pleased we were with everything. For such a party there can be few more delightful venues but it could have all gone wrong if the room had been badly set up, if the food had been poor, or the service grudging and inattentive.

In the event everything was done exactly as arranged with Sharon Blackgrove. The room looked beautiful, the flowers on the tables being some of the loveliest arrangements I have seen. The food was excellent and we received many compliments on it from our guests. The wines were just as we had hoped. The service provided by your staff was at once attentive and unobtrusive. Things really could not have been done better and this all pervading excellence made for our guests, and thus for ourselves, a totally enjoyable and memorable occasion.

Too often complaints reach to top at the speed of light while compliments, if given at all, are left in the foothills – which is a shame. That is why I have written to you.

Sorry for the delay in sending you this e-mail, but I would like to thank you for your help and guidance in organizing this event and for your correspondence. I was pleased with the way it all turned out. My family and friends were very impressed with West Lodge Park and all said how much they enjoyed their stay and would like to visit again, maybe for lunch or coffee, or even for their own event.

I was pleased with all of the rooms and the way that they were presented, so well done to whomever is responsible. We all found the staff to be courteous and friendly, so I would like to thank them all for their help, and to Georgina especially. The function room, with its two round tables beautifully arranged, along with the flowers, looked perfect.
The food, wine, and champagne, were also all so delicious, so many thanks to the chef and his/her staff for all of their efforts, it was all well appreciated.

From the moment you turn into the approach and along the tree lined driveway, before you even see the hotel, it feels right. Then you glimpse the hotel and its proportions and you realise at once
that this is the right place for all those important family occasions. I am so glad that we chose to hold our parents Golden Wedding Anniversary here, and we thank you all for our stay.

I just wanted to say what a wonderful service I received at the West Lodge Park Hotel last week. I had been let down at the last minute with a booking I had made at a different venue as they had had a flood, which made it impossible to accommodate us.

I drove into the hotel car park really expecting to be told that it would not be possible at such short notice.
Your wonderful staff came up trumps. They were all most understanding, friendly and efficient.
My husband enjoyed his surprise, and all the family guests had a wonderful time too.
They were interested in the history of the house and admired the grounds. I was actually quite pleased that we had changed venue as the hotel was nicer, closer to home and had a superior menu.
We are now looking at joining your 55club so that we can enjoy your hospitality on future occasions.

Re: Golden Wedding Anniversary 10th January 2009.

We held our Golden Wedding celebration with West Lodge on Saturday last, and it was a splendid occasion, enjoyed by all our family and guests, including Sir John and Lesley Stuttard, who I am sure went to check that his tree was still going strong.

The organisation was great with Sharon taking great care to ensure that all the arrangements went according to plan, which they did. We must mention the names of Georgina and her assistant Lauren, who worked extremely hard and were 100% efficient with their helpers in ensuring that the evening went off superbly. The kitchen staff and chefs must be mentioned for the great food which was served hot, something which must be difficult at present with the re-organisation of the restaurant area.

We have been coming to West Lodge now over three generations of ownership by the Beale family, and we can say without fear or favour that it gets better all the time,

During the month of February my wife and I were looking for a suitable venue to celebrate our 50 years Golden Wedding anniversary. We visited West Lodge and we were impressed by the Hotel and the beautiful lgrounds.

We entered the hotel being greeted by Grant the doorman. This proved to us both that we had found what we required. His beaming smile and cheerful greeting was a great start. From then on everything was perfect.

At reception another smile. After explaining our purpose they contacted Helen. In a matter of minutes Helen arrived and produced menu's, prices etc. Needless to say we booked the John Evelyn room for the 22 March 2008. Further arrangements were made through Sharon and we left a deposit.

Our day arrived and thankfully so did our guests. From then everything was perfect. The food, the wine but most of all the staff. Their pleasant attitude and friendliness was a great advert for West Lodge. To say the day went well would be an understatement. It was exceptional.

On behalf of our guests thank you for an outstanding day. On behalf of my wife and me I would like to thank everybody for making our 50 years anniversary a really Golden occasion.

Hi Sharon,

Just a note to say how delighted we were with everything yesterday. It all went really well. The room looked so pretty for the ceremony and was then transformed once more when the tables were set up.

The meal was lovely and all your staff were most helpful and attentive – especially the young lady who was ‘in charge’ – I’m afraid I can’ remember her name but she was great and very helpful. It was just a shame that my husband had obviously picked up some stomach bug and was feeling really unwell. At one stage I thought he might not even make it but he got there albeit feeling really under the weather and barely able to eat!! Meanwhile even the sun came out at the right time and we were able to have the reception in the gardens so we felt really lucky.

Emily and John are now on their way to Wales for a couple of nights break and the rest of us are recovering.

Well, everyone had a tremendous time at Mary and Daniel's wedding and I had a lot of very favourable comments about the quality of the rooms and the grounds at WLP and the helpfulness of the staff, etc. So it was good to hear that they were all so comfortable in the hotel.

As for the brunch, it was a great success - a total of 49 in the end and everyone tucked in, once the younger ones had been dug out of bed. The food was excellent and again, as of course I expected, Matt and his staff were very attentive. He was in fact ready to start by 10.30 but it was about 10.45 before people drifted in. Afterwards we gathered outside on the patio to chat before leaving and also to throw rose petals over the married couple - see attached. We are seeing Tony King tomorrow evening so I'll tell him too how well it all went.

Thank you so much for all your help in sorting out all the details with Mary and then with my sister Christabel - it meant that everything went without a hitch. Hope you have had a good break - we fly back to Ceret next Monday where it should be a lot warmer than here!

My guest and fellow foodie Elizabeth and I attended the Gourmet Dinner on Friday evening.

We want you to know how very much we enjoyed the evening. The meal was faultless, each dish perfectly cooked and presented. It would be impossible to choose one dish above another for special praise. (Though I want the recipe for the little zucchini dolmas,canapes). How did he get them so succulent?

The wines presented to accompany each dish were all very good indeed and Dougal effortlessly pointed us in the right direction with his easy manner. It was nice to have Anthony Browning around too.

We have always been impressed by the quality of your front of house staff, mostly young, always helpful, polite and forward thinking. I would say that you are very lucky but I know that good service only comes with good training. So Congratulations.

Personal thank you cards will be in the post to you but I just wanted to write before they arrive to say thank you so much for providing such a wonderful evening for us all to enjoy for Gill’s 21st Birthday celebrations. We had a tremendous time, everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

Preparations with Sue Dixon went very smoothly and the idea of pre ordering meant that everything ran very smoothly. The food was delicious, the location of the table superb and Matthew and his team worked very well – they were so attentive to every detail and very co-operative regarding table decorations, cake cutting requests etc and even programmed the piano to play Happy Birthday at the right moment! Please pass on my thanks to Sue, Matthew and the team.

My sons and their respective wife and fiancé (very soon wife to be – 23rd October this year) were very impressed with the Hotel - as were the other guests - and expressed an interest in staying over some time when a special occasions arises.

Gill said that it had been a brilliant evening and I know it will hold many memories for her – she has already put the photos are already on facebook!

Hello,

As part of our recent Ruby Wedding celebrations, we brought our children and grandchildren to lunch at West Lodge Park last Sarturday and stayed overnight and want to thank the staff who made our stay so comfortable and enjoyable. The chef produced exactly the food requested for the children at lunch time, which meant the adults could relax and enjoy the usual excellent menu. I don't know who produced the jam sandwiches at tea time for 3-year old Alexander, but they were the best ever! We all appreciated the comfort of the rooms and the standard of service in the restaurant and bar, helpful but not fussy. We took full advantage of the grounds, the arboretum and the croquet lawn and came away relaxed after a splendid breakfast.

On 3rd August 1970, our wedding buffet lunch at West Lodge Park cost 22/6 a head. Prices have gone up just a bit, but you do still give value for money.

We look forward to our next visit!

Last Saturday evening I was enjoying a pleasant evening’s drink in your Cocktail bar, as indeed we often do, when I was approached by a young gentleman from reception who informed me that he had been advised by a coach driver that I had left my headlights on and was at risk of having a flat battery. I at once went to the car park, turned off my lights, thanked the coach driver and returned into the hotel and went to thank the gentleman who had informed me of the situation. He then said that if I had any problem starting the car when I and my friends left I was to come and see him and he would either assist in starting my car or arrange to get us back home.

I thought this was quite outstanding service and kindness and an excellent example of why your hotel and it’s staff are so highly regarded by local residents. West Lodge Park is exceptional for its style and ambience which it has maintained for many years and is the reason why my family has held all its functions there over so many years, my father having known Mr Edward Beale quite well. May I also say how delightfully we are looked after by Guido at all times.

My wife, Diana, and I stayed overnight at your delightful hotel at the weekend, preparatory to attending a funeral, after which a part of about fifteen accompanied us back for sandwiches, cake and tea arranged via your restaurant. May of the guests were elderly and both they and we are very grateful for the kind patience and support shown by your staff.

We have stayed at West Lodge three times fairly recently - tempted by The Times' offer! - while visiting family in Barnet and have, each time, been greatly struck by the friendliness and charm of your staff. It is a testament to your style of management that, regardless of age, all those with whom we came into contact exhibited the same standards. You, and they of course, are to be congratulated in maintaining a standard that one experiences less and less elsewhere.

West Lodge has been known to us since we were both young (now a long time ago!) starting with 18th birthday party celebrations et al and, although we mourn the loss of the lounge, whilst recognising the commercial imperative, it is a joy to know that it remains a haven of charm and tranquillity. Especially remarkable given the enormous changes that have taken place in the surrounding area. Please convey our appreciation to your staff.

We wish to record our thanks to restaurant staff/manager for the lovely meal we enjoyed yesterday evening for a friend's 50th birthday celebration.

The venue as always was fantastic. The food was lovely and very well presented but above all we were so impressed by the professional, friendly and extremely helpful service by those serving food and also the manager in ensuring everything went well. In days when customer and service don't seem to be words that go together it is extremely heartening to be on the receiving end of such excellent customer service that went above and beyond expectations to ensure that the birthday meal went well. We are back home after a wonderful fortnight's journey in Britain!
We managed to drive a total of 1100 miles from Heathrow to Herefordshire and then all the way to the Lake District, to Derbyshire and then back to London and to the highlight of our trip, your West Lodge Park!

Your hotel exceeded all our expectations - David McIntyre had chosen us the spacious executive room with a beautiful view and all the finest facilities including that huge television screen and the comfortable chairs!

The dinner at your Mary Beale Restaurant was a really memorable experience.
My personal wishes about the gluten-free choice were complied with no fuss at all, and the food was just heavenly!

The park surrounding West Lodge Park is amazing - to have such botanical rarities normally provided only by universities or large communities and cities is a unique treasure! And in spite of being within the Greater London area and in reach of the London Underground your hotel was so quiet at night that we all had a good night's sleep!

I would like to know how to inquire about donating and dedicating a tree in the arboretum. My Grandfather was the director of Howard timbers, a great UK timber and veneer firm in the early-mid 1900's. He was a lover of trees and good wood and instilled that in me from a very young age. When I was walking your grounds I kept thinking he must have known Beale arbortoreum as he lived in palmers green. My aunt confirmed that indeed he used to frequent the park often teaching her about trees. What better memorial to my grandfather than to plant a tree in his name and make a donation to such a wonderful school of nature

Can you point me in the right direction to see if that is possible

Dear Andrew,

I wanted to thank you and your wonderful staff for arranging a perfect day last Friday. Grant gave us a superb tour and 2 hours flew by. His knowlege and enthusiasm know no bounds. Afterwards the tea was splendid and I enjoyed the chance to see the railings and finials from Holloway Road through the back window.

Everyone is still talking about it and many would like to come again,. All agree those who did not come missed something really great.

I hope it will not be long before I visit West Lodge Park again and see the new part of the arboretum and lake, and of course have another tea. Also hope to come to one of your evening dinner/concerts and perhaps stay overnight too.

Guy Fawkes Bonfire Night Dinner & Dance Saturday 5th November 2011

Further to our telephone conversation last week, I am writing to advise you that at our recent Committee Meeting, our members requested that I write and thank you personally, and indeed all of your staff at West Lodge, for making our weekend with you so special and enjoyable. They were particularly impressed that we were able to have our own private room and how attentive your staff were that evening and throughout the weekend.

We were blessed with such good weather that quite a number enjoyed walking in and around the grounds during Saturday and Sunday morning.

We met with Mr. Trevor Beale this week and he was so pleased to hear how much our Music Section members enjoyed the weekend at West Lodge and how you and your Staff had created such a special weekend.

We are all looking forward to another weekend with you, maybe at another time of the year and I would be very pleased if you could forward one or two of your 2012 Events Brochure.

We attended the Gala night on Saturday night as part of the Joanne Simons party, and would like to pass on our thanks to all the staff on the night who did a superb job of making the occasion really lovely.

The weather was so awful that at one point in the day we didn't think that we would be able to make it as the snow was causing such problems on the road - but we eventually managed to find a way to get there and was really impressed by the warm welcome we all received and the great service, provided by people who must have had similiar problems to us in getting to the hotel. Please pass on our sincere thanks to everyone involved for making it to work that night and for the making our evening such a great one. Please also pass on our best wishes to the team for a merry Christmas.

Re Christ Church Cameo Group Lunch Party today (6th Dec 2010)

What a splendid occasion we had with you today. You gave us all such devoted attention, and your young man Adam was such a huge help to us in every way. He really couldn’t do enough for us. I expect you heard that we could not get the wheelchair through the door into the dining room, and he organised getting our lady into a dining chair, and then several folks manhandled her through the door. She was a bit upset naturally, but is a very plucky lady and seems to cope with so many difficulties. Anyway, please thank Adam again for all that.

Everyone was so helpful, and it is always a delight to have people like that. Each member of the group really enjoyed themselves today and we are so grateful to West Lodge for making this possible for us. The food was delicious and so beautifully presented, and I was so touched that you had even put crackers on the table for us all as well.

The whole hotel, or what we saw of it, looked lovely, and as we looked out through the windows, it was lovely to see the frosted trees, but not the snow (!). It is lovely to see West Lodge at all the different seasons.

Thank you again Sue, and I do hope we shall be able to come again one day.

Hi Dave,

I felt that after coming to West Lodge Park on Saturday for one of your party nights I needed to contact you. We all had a fantastic time and were so impressed once again by the hotel and your staff. The meal couldn't be faulted and it is so unusual for 12 people to all clear their plates every course!!

There was a great atmosphere in the room and it would have been hard not to enjoy yourself. The waiting staff were fantastic but for our group one member of staff really shone through and that was Adam he managed to take care of everyone's needs and with a smile on his face the whole time - Thank you Adam.

Our room was in Chestnut Lodge, which was absolutely amazing and totally unexpected! I really felt that on Sunday as we left after a walk around the arboretum totally relaxed and revived.

All who were there thought the service given by all the staff was superb as did my husband and I. From the door being opened for us on arrival, the coats being taken from us on the way in, to the discreet service being given when the food was served everyone’s needs were catered for.

The food was delicious, and, when a friend of mine mentioned she was a celiac, special food was prepared for her beautifully on a slate platter.

We have had many a wedding reception in the family at your Hotel and it is still as charming as before with staff to match as well as the wonderful cuisine.

Funeral gathering on 19.4.10 following cremation of my wife Margaret Smith

I have just realised that, owing to pressure of events, I have never written to thank you for the excellence of the gathering mentioned above. I was anxious that it should be a celebration of my wife’s life and her wonderful personality, not a gloomy reflection on death or sanctimonious spirituality of that kind. I need not have worried : the whole event, the surroundings, the catering, and the background management generally were as near perfection as we could have dared hope for. This is not only my view but is shared by Mrs Jane Wynn who made most of the arrangements with you on my behalf and, to judge from the comments made to me, by virtually everyone else present.
