He won the BBC Piano Competition in 1971 on a unanimous vote of the jury, with Vlado Perlemuter saying that he had never heard ‘Gaspard de la nuit’ better played.

In the UK he has played concertos with most of the leading orchestras, broadcast frequently on the BBC and made 6 highly praised CDs for Meridian Records.
