Verulam Golf Club

Welcome to Verulam Golf Club, home of the Ryder Cup …

Verulam Golf Club was established in 1905 and our challenging 6,429 yards (par 72) course was designed by James Braid so we are now well into our second century as a thriving members’ club situated in the heart of historic St Albans, known as Verulamium in Roman times.

We take great pride in the condition of our course and the pace and subtlety of our greens. The course is fast-draining and is rarely closed, even in winter, so you can be assured of a challenging but fair test at any time of the year. Off the course you will find a warm welcome in our traditional clubhouse.

Verulam Golf Club has a tradition steeped in the game of golf. Samuel Ryder, a wealthy St Albans seed merchant, Captain of the Club and prolific supporter of early professional golf, donated the Ryder Cup in 1926. His biennial competition between Europe and the USA is now, without doubt, the most important matchplay event in the world of golf.

Verulam Golf Club is pleased to offer all hotel guests a 10% discount off green fees subject to availability.

Hadley Wood Golf Club

The 18 hole par 72 course was laid out by Dr Alister MacKenzie, the world renowned golf course Architect and designer of Augusta National, home of The Masters, and has been described as “An absolute gem.” Recently by Golf World. The course featured this year in the top 100 in England and visitors are welcome Monday-Friday / Saturday & Sunday. Reservations should be made in advance of the day to the pro shop – 020 8449 3285.

Crews Hill Golf Club

Crews Hill Golf Club offers a spectacular 18 hole parkland course of 6281yards, set in rolling countryside just 5 minutes from West Lodge Park Hotel. It is designed by the world renowned architect, Harry Colt and opened for play in 1916. The course offers a challenging yet fair test of golf to all levels of playing ability. It has great par 3’s along with superb greens that will require your full attention to keep scoring well.

Crews Hill was the home club to Mr Charles Whitcombe from 1925 -1950. He was a ‘3 time Captain’ of the GB&I Ryder Cup Team in the thirties. He boasts a course record 59 shot in 1937! This would be a remarkable feat today! Let alone 8 decades ago.

Once you have sampled this wonderful course you are invited to relax on our terrace overlooking the 1st tee and 18th green, take in a refreshing tipple and enjoy the stunning views while you reminisce on what might have been. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Our normal rates vary from the weekend (£40), weekday (£32), we are happy to discount West Lodge Park hotel guests to £25.00 for both weekend and weekdays. Call the pro shop to organise a tee time prior to play, especially on weekends as the members tend to occupy the tee until 1.00pm on Saturday and 12.00pm on Sunday.
