Diamond Wedding

Hello Sharon

It occurs to me that I have not written to express to you the thanks of Meg and myself for all your help in arranging our Diamond Wedding celebrations.

To say that it was a great success would be an understatement. It was a really outstanding evening. The room itself was perfect for our numbers, the meal was first class, the service was swift and efficient, and the speeches were just the right level of humour and emotion (we can take the credit for that!).

When you host an event like this, you tend to notice elements that are not quite right. On this occasion, not only were no such elements, but a considerable number of our guests expressed many complimentary remarks.

They thought the whole event was outstanding, and one or two indicated that they would very likely be returning with their own parties.

Whilst the staff concerned can take much credit for the outcome, I feel I must put on record the special thanks due to you. From the very start it was clear that the organisational side of things was in safe hands.

I found that dealing with you on a personal level was both friendly and reassuring. It seemed likely that all would be well on the night, and it certainly was.

Meg joins with me in thanking you for all your efforts.

On behalf of Agnes and Hilary Rodrigues, I write this letter to say a huge thank you for making their 50th Wedding Anniversary such a memorable occasion on Saturday 23rd February.

Our day at West Lodge went extremely smoothly and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day which was a huge relief to Agnes and myself. I would like to thank you for your flexible approach given Hilary’s dementia, your friendly manner and your support in making the day very special indeed.

Your support on the planning of the event was great and it was lovely not to feel pressured into making decisions there and then, your guidance and the options you provided made it a lot less stressful.

Please may you also pass on our thanks to William and the team for their excellent friendly service on the day too. A special thank you to William who provided a friendly and approachable service on the day. He too was very accommodating, dealt with requests and changes on the day with ease. He was also very kind in getting a message to me, to let us know we had left flowers behind, which I came to collect on the Monday.

I cannot thank you and your team enough really, for the pleasure the event gave to Agnes and Hilary. So, please pass on our sincere thanks and gratitude to yourself Lisa and the team for making our day as a family a very special one indeed.

My husband and I were joined by our families to celebrate our Golden Wedding at the hotel on the weekend of October 28th.

On Saturday 27th October 2012 we held our daughter Aimee's 21st birthday in the West Lodge Park Suite.

I want you to know that from the time of booking to the end of the evening I have the utmost admiration for your staff.

Lisa Campbell who was my first point of contact has been superb, her organisation and the time that she put into getting everything correct truly paid off on the evening, Lisa has been a pleasure to liaise with, and I have thanked her profusely for this.

Adam who was in charge on the evening needs an accolade, he is truly magnificent, what a tremendous man, everything that was needed was dealt with, I had the utmost confidence in him throughout the evening, I have also thanked him profusely.

All of your staff that I came into contact with are all so very lovely and this must be, I feel, that they are all happy in their work. What a wonderful team you have, I am sure you are very proud, I know I would be.

First to say thank you for the happy afternoon we all enjoyed on Sunday to celebrate 75 years as Barnet Branch President of Mrs. Stella Ross Collins.

We were looked after beautifully by all of your staff and the food for the tea was excellent, very tempting and displayed delightfully.

I know that Stella enjoyed herself enormously but so did everyone!! Can I single out in particular, Lisa Campbell, who was efficient and helpful at every turn. You asked us to let you have feedback on our day at West Lodge. In short, the day could not have been more perfect.

The food was excellent and in particular the fillet steak could not have been better for all of the guests present. Without exception the feeling expressed by all was that the steaks were “to die for”.

Adam and the rest of the staff were exceptional in their attention to detail and support to us. The only problem was that the time went too quickly!!

Finally, our thanks to you as you were brilliant in seeing that all the arrangements were exactly as they should have been.

Yesterday’s party was a great success, not least due to the quality of the setting the excellent food, and the helpfulness of all the staff from the Manager (Will, I think) and all the other staff. Nothing was too much trouble for them, and they all went out of their way to help and to assist. Even the plea to my wife from one of the male waiting staff to ‘find the person who owns the Prada bag, as her phone alarm keeps going off, and it is doing my head in’ did nothing to dampen the atmosphere. Silver Wedding Anniversary – Sunday 16th September 2012

As I am sure you heard, last Sunday’s event went extremely well in every way.

The room looked beautiful and the organisation was impeccable. We received many compliments from our guests on the quality of the food and wine, the professionalism of the service and the exceptional nature of the venue.

The bedroom which you chose for us was really lovely and we very much appreciated the personal attention shown to us by the staff throughout our stay.

In short, everything was perfect and we know very well that this does not happen without an enormous amount of forethought and preparation. Re: Lunch Party - Sunday 1 July

Hi Sharon

I just want to say a big thank you to you and all the staff involved in the organisation of the lunch party on 1st July in the Edward Beale Room. Everyone was very impressed with the attentive and helpful staff who made it clear that nothing was too much trouble. Linda made sure we wanted for nothing and was very sensitive to our needs. Her presence was never intrusive but she always politely asked what our needs were re timing of things such as teas and coffees and the cake.

The preparation of the room, the food and the attentiveness and courtesy of staff made for a relaxed and happy occasion which is exactly what I had wished for.

There is only 1 thing I think I should mention that caused a bit of stress and that was the fact that I needed to get my mother to a disabled lavatory and it was really quite a squash with 1 wheelchair and myself in the lift to the first floor. Also we assumed that there would be one on the ground floor and we ended up in a bit of a hurry! This was not the fault of any member of staff but it did surprise me that there isn't a facility for the disabled on the ground floor.

Thank you once again for all your help in the planning and arranging of this event.

Just to say thank you very much for all your organisation and hard work to make `Alan's Summer Merriment' a thoroughly enjoyable occasion for all concerned.

Many thanks for all the hard work, and also to Adam for his excellent management of the evening which made our party a hit for all concerned.

So many of our guests have commented on the quality of the food, and attentive service from the staff on duty, which I would be grateful if you could pass on to the General Manager of the hotel as there was absolutely nothing to mention on the negative side at all.

Our estimate of the costs were almost spot on-apart from the fact that we did have a few extra guests, and they did seem to enjoy the wine and after dinner bar very much!

We wanted perfection on our Diamond Wedding celebration and we got it.

The weather was warm spring sunshine just as it was on our wedding day and West Lodge Arboretum looked magnificent.

Our family, who had not been to the hotel before, were very impressed and fell in love with the King Charles room.

We would like to thank Patrick and all the staff who looked after us so well and catered for all we needed, including the kitchen staff who provided such delicious food.

We want to thank you personally for your advice and planning.

We loved the flowers that were so generously given to us and the bottle of champagne courtesy of Dave Seward that we will enjoy at a later date.

Just a line to say that the lunch was a great success. Matthew was really helpful, and the whole think went off smoothly, or as smoothly as it can do with an autistic child, who kept disappearing.

The room was arranged perfectly. All the food was a great success, the cake was a success and the timing of everything was immaculate.

David and I would like to thank you for all your help and input over the last few months of organizing this important day.

We were not able to finalise the payment when we left as it had not all been calculated by the time that the taxi arrived. I arranged for the balance of the bill to be sent to me. We will be away for a few days, but it will be settled promptly.

Our 40th Wedding anniversary was a beautiful occasion in a delightful environment, exceedingly well managed by the staff at West Lodge.

We would like to thank you, your colleagues, and all the staff who contributed to making it such a memorable day. Special thanks to you and Sue who sorted out some particular niggles and of course also to Adam who was very responsive and coped exceedingly promptly with some minor hiccups which arose.

We were delighted with the arrangement of the rooms and loved the setting of the tables with the glassware we had asked for. The menu and food were praised by everybody, compliments to the chef for getting the lamb just right for this occasion with just the touch of pink I had hoped for. The service was impeccably organised, efficient and well timed, very attentive yet unobtrusive.

All the staff I came into contact with, without exception, deserve praise for their politeness and professionalism.

Dear Sharon,

We had such a wonderful day yesterday at our Golden Wedding lunch. Everything seemed to go like clockwork and so beautifully and professionally arranged for us. The rain kept away until we were on our way home and so we were able to sit in the garden whilst guests were arriving, and walk around the arboretum prior to the cake being served.

Will did his utmost to make us feel relaxed and was very ably assisted by his two young waiters. We were most grateful for all Will’s efforts in making the afternoon run so smoothly and for being a big success.

The food as usual was to your high standards and we had many comments of appreciation from our guests. Please give our thanks to all involved.

Dear Sharon,

Marion and I thought that you would like to know that all aspects of our stay at West Lodge Park and our anniversary dinner went without hitch and that we shall remember it all very fondly. Lauren was in charge of the function and she gave close attention to detail without being intrusive, and the staff were all very good. The table layout worked well, with the children being together on their own table but effectively corralled by adults around them. Only once did they try stealing and swapping the adults' shoes!

Another good thing, which is worth suggesting to other clients, was the use which we made of the lobby. We had the cake, a couple of flower arrangements, two photos from our wedding album (which we mounted on gold surrounds in white frames) and all of our cards on display on a long table which drew many admiring comments from guests as they came in.

Two points, which are intended to be of help rather than criticism are:

- the main course, described as "medallions of pork fillet wrapped in Parma ham" was actually served as a single "log" on each plate. It was very well cooked, but a little on the large side and a bit off-putting, I thought. I appreciate that it is difficult to carve into medallions without losing the wrapping, and of course takes longer to serve, but in my opinion two thirds of the quantity, sliced, would have been truer to the menu and more elegant to present.

 - as you know, we stayed for two nights in one of the rooms. It is always difficult to stand in a bath and have a shower, but it really does need a grab handle, positioned at about chest height when standing in the bath, to help with climbing in and out, not to mention standing on one leg to wash one's feet! The soap dish at one end and the clothes rack at the other are really too flimsy and are not designed to take any weight.   

Having said all of that, it was a superb weekend which we shall always remember and we are very grateful for the help which you gave us.

What a wonderful day we had yesterday - and what a party! Everything went off so well and it was just a lovely and relaxed atmosphere. The room and conservatory looked beautiful - you got the mix of pink balloons just right. The food was delicious and in abundance. Adam was efficient, charming and attentive and the staff did an excellent job too. Paul hit just the right note (no pun intended) and we all enjoyed singing along with my brother's impromptu Elvis tribute.

Everyone remarked what a beautiful setting it was enhanced by the glorious sunshine - we were so lucky with the weather! Shelley was completely stunned when she arrived and we all shouted "surprise". She did enjoy it once she had recovered. Our thanks to you (and the team) for all your hard work and planning to make a truly perfect day and one we shall all remember.

Last Saturday, 12th March, we held my 80th Birthday celebration at West Lodge Park.

I should like to thank David Seward and his staff, in particular Adam, who was in charge of the event, Georgina and Chris for looking after us all so well.

It was our third big party at West Lodge Park. In 1994 we held our 40th Wedding Anniversary party there. In 2004 we had our 50th Anniversary at your hotel. We brought an album to the party showing my daughter and granddaughter in the boat in 1994! They were wonderful but now it was even more special. With our events organiser, Helen, who was on the job since last July, everything went so smoothly and the fact that you were able to upgrade us to the beautiful room with the conservatory which we had for our 40th Wedding Anniversary, made it even more special. The food was superb, the kindness and care which Adam and Georgina showed us, the truly beautiful surroundings, made this an occasion which my daughter and grandchildren especially, but all the family there present, will remember all their lives.

And to add the final touch of glamour for the day, you gave us the Rose Room, since the room which we were to have had, had been smoked in.

The sunny spring day which we had was the cherry on the cake, so my child guests could play outside.

May I say how much I and all of my guests enjoyed this special family event in your wonderful hotel.

Abbi rang today to say how fantastic her event to celebrate her parent’s 50th wedding anniversary went last Friday. The whole party exceeded all her expectations – Adam and his team were superb and Helen and Louise’s help and advice ensured a perfect evening.

Her parents were elated when they saw the venue – she couldn’t have made a better choice. She is now looking for an excuse to hold another party!!!!!

One of her guests had booked (unbeknown to Abbi) in to the hotel to stay overnight and when Abbi spoke to her the following morning the guest was so enthusiastic about the comfort and quality of the room and the hotel in general – her only regret being that she had to leave very early the next day because she wanted to stay longer.

Well done to everyone – this was a very good last minute booking.

Wow..what can I say?!!!!! We had an absolutely fantastic time on Saturday night.

Thank you so much for giving up your time to guide us around the arboretum. You conveyed an infectious passion for your subject which left us all very inspired and much better informed.

As for the evening, the lovely Champagne made the party start with a swing, the food and wine were fantastic, and your staff were as attentive as ever. Adam Brooke deserves a medal for all his efforts in keeping the evening flowing! Needless to say we all definitely appreciated the opportunity to stay over for the night in one of your lovely hotel rooms, and enjoyed the fabulous breakfast in the morning.

Many of the staff asked how I had come to find such a gem of a hotel, and I must say that I agree with them that West Lodge Park is truely a special place. Foresters Friendly Society Lunch - Wednesday 28 July 2010

Cheryl Fox – the organiser of the above event – spoke to me after the lunch today.

She was absolutely over the moon with everything – she said the food was the best they had ever had in all the years they have been coming here and the service was so smooth and slick that the whole event went like a dream. She is the vegetarian (Leek and Camembert tart) and she said that it was one of the best veggie dishes she had ever eaten.

She couldn’t have praised Will and his team highly enough and is looking forward to returning again next year.

Many belated thanks for your organisation of my fathers birthday. Apologies it has taken me so long to write.

I just wanted to say we all had such a lovely time. The table was perfect (I pointed out no creases in the table cloth) to my father and he laughed.

The room looked beautiful with the Christmas decorations but most of all it was the personal and attentive service of Adam and lady colleague that evening which made us all feel so welcome and relaxed. The partywent so well. everything as planned. The room looked lovely and everyone just fitted in. On reflection I would think that room would be more comfortable with just 4 tables.

Afternoon Tea - Jon Evelyn Suite - Saturday 16 January

Mrs Few rang to say a very big thank you for her 80th Birthday Party held here last Saturday.

On Sunday last, November 8, I had my 70th birthday lunch at West Lodge Park, with some 49 guests (14 of whom stayed overnight on the Saturday).

I knew it would be a good affair because I and my brother and sisters, their partners and my mother and step father had a small family celebration at West Lodge Park two or three years ago.

But my event was better than good, in fact it was brilliant. I cannot thank your team at West Lodge Park enough.

From my first visit to discuss the birthday lunch last February to the final farewell eveerything was perfect. I had enormous help from Sharon Blackgrove and the event panned out exactly as I had hoped. The room was wonderfully set, the food was just great, the flexibility of your team very helpful. Can I mention in particular the manager who was looking after our event - his name was Adam but I am sorry, I did not get his surname. My goodness, what a good ambassador he is for your hotel. Courteous and efficient at all times and so easy to work with.

So my congratulations and thanks. I know these days people are only too ready to criticise so I want to give great praise where praise is due. I am sure we shall be having another family event in due course.

Oh, and what wonderful grounds. With pressures on your bottom line, as in all businesses, I think it fantastic that you maintain the upkeep of those beautiful grounds so well. Many of us had a stroll at some time during the two days and it was a delight.

My wife and I celebrated our fortieth wedding anniversary on Saturday in the John Evelyn Room.

I am writing to you because I want you, as the person ultimately responsible for West Lodge Park, to know how pleased we were with everything. For such a party there can be few more delightful venues but it could have all gone wrong if the room had been badly set up, if the food had been poor, or the service grudging and inattentive.

In the event everything was done exactly as arranged with Sharon Blackgrove. The room looked beautiful, the flowers on the tables being some of the loveliest arrangements I have seen. The food was excellent and we received many compliments on it from our guests. The wines were just as we had hoped. The service provided by your staff was at once attentive and unobtrusive. Things really could not have been done better and this all pervading excellence made for our guests, and thus for ourselves, a totally enjoyable and memorable occasion.

Too often complaints reach to top at the speed of light while compliments, if given at all, are left in the foothills – which is a shame. That is why I have written to you.

I was pleased with all of the rooms and the way that they were presented, so well done to whomever is responsible. The food, wine, and champagne, were also all so delicious, so many thanks to the chef and his/her staff for all of their efforts, it was all well appreciated.

From the moment you turn into the approach and along the tree lined driveway, before you even see the hotel, it feels right. Then you glimpse the hotel and its proportions and you realise at once

I just wanted to say what a wonderful service I received at the West Lodge Park Hotel last week. I had been let down at the last minute with a booking I had made at a different venue as they had had a flood, which made it impossible to accommodate us.

I drove into the hotel car park really expecting to be told that it would not be possible at such short notice. Your wonderful staff came up trumps. They were all most understanding, friendly and efficient. My husband enjoyed his surprise, and all the family guests had a wonderful time too. They were interested in the history of the house and admired the grounds. I was actually quite pleased that we had changed venue as the hotel was nicer, closer to home and had a superior menu. We are now looking at joining your 55club so that we can enjoy your hospitality on future occasions.

Re: Golden Wedding Anniversary 10th January 2009.

We held our Golden Wedding celebration with West Lodge on Saturday last, and it was a splendid occasion, enjoyed by all our family and guests, including Sir John and Lesley Stuttard, who I am sure went to check that his tree was still going strong.

The organisation was great with Sharon taking great care to ensure that all the arrangements went according to plan, which they did. We must mention the names of Georgina and her assistant Lauren, who worked extremely hard and were 100% efficient with their helpers in ensuring that the evening went off superbly. The kitchen staff and chefs must be mentioned for the great food which was served hot, something which must be difficult at present with the re-organisation of the restaurant area.

We have been coming to West Lodge now over three generations of ownership by the Beale family, and we can say without fear or favour that it gets better all the time,

Saturday 7th June 2008 - Smith lunch party

I would just like to convey to all concerned at West Lodge Park what a fantastic time we had, food was excellent and all the staff were very helpful. The whole event was "just perfect" and I could not see how you could have improved on anything.

During the month of February my wife and I were looking for a suitable venue to celebrate our 50 years Golden Wedding anniversary. We visited West Lodge and we were impressed by the Hotel and the beautiful lgrounds.

We entered the hotel being greeted by Grant the doorman. This proved to us both that we had found what we required. His beaming smile and cheerful greeting was a great start. From then on everything was perfect.

At reception another smile. After explaining our purpose they contacted Helen. In a matter of minutes Helen arrived and produced menu's, prices etc. Needless to say we booked the John Evelyn room for the 22 March 2008. Further arrangements were made through Sharon and we left a deposit.

Our day arrived and thankfully so did our guests. From then everything was perfect. The food, the wine but most of all the staff. Their pleasant attitude and friendliness was a great advert for West Lodge. To say the day went well would be an understatement. It was exceptional.

On behalf of our guests thank you for an outstanding day. On behalf of my wife and me I would like to thank everybody for making our 50 years anniversary a really Golden occasion.

Cliff and I would like to thank you for all your help in arranging our Anniversary lunch to celebrate our 40th.

From the moment we entered West Lodge, the welcome was very friendly, the room, tables and especially the staff who looked after us were fantastic. The whole day was appreciated by our guests who thought the food, venue and attention to details were just perfect (Cliff and my sentiments exactly).

Thank you for making our day 'special' and hopefully if my daughter decides to get married next year we will be returning to West Lodge Park.

My husband and I would like to thank you and your team for making his birthday lunch party so very special for us and our guests. I had intended to write this letter first thing this morning but this has proved to be impossible since I have had a constant stream of calls from our guests all thanking us for a wonderful party and commenting on the first class service provided by your excellent staff.

I cannot emphasis enough how courteous and professional Adam, Pat and Lauren were throughout the day. They met our every need and always with a smile. Could you please pass on our thanks to them as well as those members of staff who we did not come into direct contact with but without doubt worked tirelessly in the background.

May we also extend our thanks to you for all the organisation and planning that went on before the event and which resulted in such a wonderful and unforgettable day.

The hospitality offered by the West Park Hotel has again exceeded our expectations and we look forward to celebrating many other special occasions with you. I do hope that some cake was left for you in a specially marked container as I had requested.

Dear Sharon,

Just a note to say a very big 'Thank You' to you all, for the hard work and professional efficiency, and the tireless hard work, in making sure my 'Black Tie' 40th Birthday Celebration on Saturday 3rd November, the whole event went off better than I could have ever imagined.

The hotel location and the overall ambience of the decorated John Evelyn suite together with the care of all our guests created a unique special and exciting venue and party.

This all created a wonderful and memorable party and weekend for all concerned. Again please pass on my thanks and congratulations to all those who worked and helped to make everything happen, by looking after all my many guests who stayed for the weekend and also looked after a large group of excited party revellers.

I am writing to express the great pleasure of myself and my guests on the occasion of my 70th Birthday Party on the 6th October. Everyone commented on the venue in such a lovely setting and how much they enjoyed themselves. Every thing went like clockwork and looked wonderful. Richard and his staff were most helpful and pleasant and I managed to congratulate your chef Wayne after the lunch, but would appreciate it if you could let him and his staff know that my guests thought the food and in particular the lamb was superb. Someone said they had never eaten such excellent lamb. It was a most happy event, I couldn't have made a better choice of venue to celebrate this significant occasion.

Dear Helen,

I had to write to say what a fantastic day I had. The room and the conservatory looked marvellous with the sun shining, the food was incredible everybody said the presentation and the taste were second to none and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

All my friends who had never been to West Lodge Park before said what a great venue it was.

Hi Sharon

Michael and I just wanted to say a huge thank you to you and your team for doing such a great job and making our Silver Wedding Anniversary such a special day.

Please will you thank everyone involved especially the manager who looked after us on the day for making it all go so smoothly.

It has been a very hectic few weeks with our daughter coming over from Australia for the function and our other daughter giving birth to our second grandson on Monday!

I have attached a photo of Michael and I with our daughters, son in laws and 2 grandchildren taken in the lovely grounds of the hotel - we were so lucky that the rain held off till late that afternoon!

I just wanted to say a big thank you for Saturday which we all enjoyed so much, It was just as we wanted it. Please extend our particular thanks to the lady who looked after us during the afternoon, nothing was too much trouble and she was very attentive. The food and surroundings were lovely and even the weather didn't spoil the day!
