Verulam Golf Club was established in 1905 and our challenging 6,429 yards (par 72) course was designed by James Braid so we are now well into our second century as a thriving members’ club situated in the heart of historic St Albans, known as Verulamium in Roman times.
We take great pride in the condition of our course and the pace and subtlety of our greens. The course is fast-draining and is rarely closed, even in winter, so you can be assured of a challenging but fair test at any time of the year. Off the course you will find a warm welcome in our traditional clubhouse.
Verulam Golf Club has a tradition steeped in the game of golf. Samuel Ryder, a wealthy St Albans seed merchant, Captain of the Club and prolific supporter of early professional golf, donated the Ryder Cup in 1926. His biennial competition between Europe and the USA is now, without doubt, the most important matchplay event in the world of golf.
Verulam Golf Club is pleased to offer all hotel guests a 10% discount off green fees subject to availability.

I just want to thank your hotel (particularly Linda Purton) for her kindness and generosity she showed me this morning. I had been scheduled to do a tour of your hotel with my Supply Chain Management students this morning. Unfortunately I made the mistake of giving them an incorrect time and caused a right mess of the whole thing. I must thank Linda so deeply for helping me out and running a second session for my students who would otherwise have had a poor experience. I have never stayed with Beales before but I am sure Linda gives the best of herself to difficult customers like myself, and perhaps I shall have the pleasure of being a guest soon. What you can count on is that I will do my bit by way of word of mouth. Linda literally made my day and I thought this will in a small way show her my gratitude; it almost brought a tear to my eyes how helpful she was. Again thank you all at Beales for the time you commit to aiding our efforts to educate our students. Your input is greatly appreciated.

RE: Meeting today
Sorry we missed you yesterday, we were running late and you had already left. However, the duty manager (Marc?) looked after us very well last night and your team of staff did a wonderful job today as well.
Our event went very well and we have had good feedback from attendees who say they would attend a similar event if we were to run one. So watch this space for another possible booking later in the year!

The support from the Hotel before and during the event was exceptional.
We don’t anticipate any further events in the near future but I will certainly use the Hotel again should we need this in the longer term

From the sign in the lobby I guess you’re the hotel head chef? I’ve stayed here twice now and had the pleasure of dining here. I am completely impressed by your menu and frankly speaking for someone so widely travelled, you’re a credit to this institution.
I’m sure if just for the food, I will be back!

I just wanted to drop you a note to say thank you for hosting us at Beale’s yesterday. The team that looked after us were great as was the food.
Thank you so much also for the personal greeting, cards and fizz! That was very generous of you and it was a lovely touch for the staff and particularly volunteers and new members of staff to get a personal thanks from the chair of trustees.
Thanks once again and I hope you have a lovely Christmas

We had a splendid time yesterday evening. It all started on a high when we first saw the room – the tables were beautifully decorated and the overall impression was ‘wow’.
Karla looked after us extremely well – her team were very polite and efficient and all the arrangements went exactly as we intended.
Please extend our thanks to all concerned – particularly to the Chef for producing an excellent meal.
My thanks also to yourself – I have appreciated your ready help with the many demands I have made on your time. It has always been a pleasure to talk to you.

New Years Eve
Dear all at Beales Hotel,
I wanted to leave a comment on your website but can't seem to find the link;
I would like to express my gratitude to you all for such a fantastic evening on New Year's Eve, although the the atmosphere was fantastic, and the food was great, what surprised us the most was the Staff;
The Restaurant Manager was so accommodating to all of our needs and made us feel so welcome and at ease with our stay. Including our breakfast, it was not rushed and it was delightful.
The Assistant Managers (Male and Female) were so very kind and helpful, they ensured we enjoyed our stay and were very professional through-out the evening and morning.
Our group of 12 would like to thank everyone individually and though I don't usually send emails of gratitude (unfortunately too busy) I wanted to personally take time out to do so for the Beales group.
Thanks again! And see you very soon (for sure)

I booked a room for my in-laws on Christmas eve, and they were very satisfied with the room/breakfast.
From my own impression, the room and facilities were all very smart, plus lots of parking. In my opinion, probably the best value hotel in the area.

Dear Mr Beale,
I am just writing to you as my girlfriend and I wanted to highly commend your staff at the Beales Hotel in Hatfield. Whether working on reception, the restaurant or housekeeping, they are fantastic advocates for the Beales hotel brand!
We usually tend just to dine at the OutsideIn Restaurant, but have on occasions taken advantage of the dinner, bed and breakfast internet offers, even though we live locally as it is such a pleasant experience!
Sumi Saranachchi and his staff deserve a special mention. In particular, Sumi’s attention to detail is and very personable style is second to none. In fact, when we dine, we now feel we are in the company of friends which is something we really appreciate! Please also pass on our thanks to Alex Hendon who is also fantastic although was on duty the last few times we visited.
The food is fantastic - quite simply the best in the area! It was great to meet Diego recently too!
Finally, I would just make a few minor comments, which may help to make it even better. Firstly, I think the chairs and furniture in the restaurant seem to be becoming a little tired now, but I believe from your comments on Tripadvisor that new furniture has been ordered anyway.
The only other thing is the temperature of the rooms we have stayed in on the ground floor was very warm and did actually prevent a really restful night’s sleep. Premier Inn seem to get this absolutely right, but am not sure if anything can be done about this? If ever you require a couple of “guinea pigs” to test newly refurbished rooms then do let me know!
Overall though, things at the hotel are fantastic!
P.S. I would be interested to know what the relaxing music is you use in the restaurant as it would be great to buy!back to top
To the staff at Beales Hotel,
I stayed at the hotel on Saturday 13 December 2014 and attended the Xmas party night with 11 friends. The food was excellent, so thanks to the kitchen team - I'd love the recipe for the dark chocolate parfait!
Staff were attentive and accommodating, especially the reception staff both Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning.
The bedroom was lovely - very clean and comfortable.
Thank you for a great weekend.

Just wanted to say a very big thank you for our wonderful lunch today with 42 David Lloyd members attending. They all had a wonderful time and could not fault it in any way.
Food, service and venue were all first class.
Thank you very much to all the staff who looked after us.

Re: Hertfordshire Young Farmers Club - Annual Ball
Dear Andrew, As President of the Young Farmers I am writing to say how much everyone had enjoyed there Ball at Beales Hotel on Sat. night. The staff were excellent and coped with 212 in the dining room, it was very cosy . We appreciated your kind offer of the four complimentary rooms, which were used by the organizing committee that was really good as we didn’t need to drive home. Also your donation of a room towards the auction which raised much needed funds for next years programme. We had guests from as far afield as Northants, Beds. and Essex and we hope this generates future business for the hotel. We hope we can use your facilities again. And again many many thanks for all your help.

First, a big thank for all the effort both you and your staff made last Friday – not forgetting Emma – the best raffle ticket seller in the business!
It was a super evening – not a single complaint! A record!
Next year I have booked the same date October 9th. I have also spoken to Jane and she confirms you have no concert on that date so will be able to come again. I think it does make a difference!
Again, many thanks for your usual generosity.

I hope that you had a great weekend!
Thank you very much for all of your help with organising our Christmas Party on Friday evening – the event was a complete success and we have had so much good feedback. I am really pleased. The magician was excellent as was the caricaturist.
I counted around 20 spare seats when dinner was being served – it may not be possible, but is there any way that your chef can advise how many meals were left? It will just give us an idea of numbers. Also, please can you send me the final invoice and I will arrange payment for you ASAP.
